Grant Thornton Armenia Hosts Forum on Sustainability and Climate Risk in the Financial Sector

On April 10, Grant Thornton Armenia held a high-level professional forum titled “Sustainability & Climate Risk: A Forum for Banks”, bringing together key stakeholders in Armenia’s financial sector.

The event featured a special guest speaker, Andreas Spyrides, Head of Quantitative Risk at Grant Thornton Cyprus, who joined the forum in Yerevan to share European best practices in identifying, quantifying, and integrating climate-related risks in banking processes.

The forum opened with welcome notes from Azat Manukyan, Partner at Grant Thornton Armenia, and Ruben Melikyan, Deputy Chairman of the Union of Banks of Armenia. Their remarks were followed by Hasmik Ghahramanyan, Board Member of the Central Bank of Armenia, who outlined the regulator’s approach and expectations related to sustainability and climate risks.

The agenda included keynote presentations by Azat Manukyan and Andreas Spyrides, focusing on the evolving sustainability agenda in banks and real-life applications of climate risk models, including lessons learned from ECB-regulated institutions.

A key highlight of the event was the panel discussion on ESG and sustainability in the financial sector, moderated by Azat Manukyan. Panelists included experts from the Central Bank of Armenia, EBRD, ADB, and the German Sparkassenstiftung for International Cooperation (DSIK), who shared insights on regulatory trends, ESG implementation, and opportunities for technical support to achieve sustainability goals.

Through this platform, Grant Thornton Armenia aims to foster dialogue, share expertise, and promote actionable strategies to help financial institutions adapt to the growing relevance of sustainability and climate-related risks in today’s regulatory and business landscape.
